Introducing The New T-Mobile G2
The T-Mobile G2, is the successor to the G1 and the first phone designed to operate on T-Mobile’s 4G HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access) network. Like the G1, the T-Mobile G2 features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It has a 5-megapixel camera without flash that also shoots HD video. The screen is 3.7 inches and the processor is an 800MHz Snapdragon, which is less than the 1GHz processors in some other phones. The processor probably was downgraded to help boost battery life and T-Mobile G2 batteries do offer more minutes of talk time than its G1 predecessor. The phone’s internal memory is 4GB and it ships with an 8GB card for additional memory. The card, of course, can be upgraded to 32GB.
The T-Mobile G2′s Android 2.2, also known as Froyo, operating system and its 4G capability combine for faster download speeds than other Android phones. The HSPA+ network is capable of downloads up to 56 megabits per second, which is about four times as fast as enhanced 3G. That means playing video and music are the G2′s strengths and the phone likely will be favored by mobile gamers and power users. The phone comes with a host of Google applications including Google Earth, Google Maps and Google Voice. T-Mobile has added Swype and Quick Keys on the slide-out keyboard. The G2′s seven screen panels can be customized by users and one panel offers direct access to the Android Marketplace, where up to 70,000 applications are available. Bluetooth stereo, available as an add-on in the G1, is standard on the T-Mobile G2.
Cell phone accessories these days are available even before the phones go on sale and the T-Mobile G2 is no exception. T-Mobile G2 accessories include spare batteries, car chargers, Bluetooth car kits, T-Mobile G2 travel chargers, headphones, solar-charging Bluetooth speakers and a unique phone mount that also serves as a four-port USB hub. Another accessory is the U-Booster amplifier kit by Wilson, designed to reduce dropped calls and increase data rates in dead spots and areas where signals are weak. Google G2 accessories include antennas, adapters, signal boosters, batteries, head sets, and car kits as well as designer covers, gels and skins. Google G2 accessories are made by top manufacturers such as Belkin, Blue Ant and Wilson.
Cases also are plentiful. T-Mobile G2 Cases include a zebra-skin case, red or black silicone gel, horizontal or vertical cases and leather cases. Also available are holsters, lanyards and belt clips. Cell phone cases, which can be cheap or expensive, not only protect today’s high-technology phones, but they also provide a way for users to express themselves.
The T-Mobile G2 clearly is a groundbreaking phone with many advances over other Android phones. Data transmission is much faster due to the advantage of operating on T-Mobile’s 4G network. The latest Android 2.2 operating system also offers more features than its Android 2.1 predecessor that powers many of today’s phones. Fierce retail competition before the phone’s launch meant lower prices for consumers and special deals involving free accessories.
